Many people in Pakistan are jailed while under trial, meaning they are innocent until proven guilty. Many languish in prison because they lack the money to pay bail or hire a lawyer. They deserve a fair trial and a chance to rebuild their lives. Join me in supporting their legal defence and release.
Update 1: Our First Successful Legal Aid Case
Nadia Begum* hails from an underdeveloped region in Tarnol. She found herself behind bars due to a false dacoity case, a grave injustice that separated her from her family and her freedom. Life in prison was particularly challenging for her, as she gave birth to her child in jail, with limited access to proper medical care. For six long months, she remained incarcerated, along with her newborn baby. My team and I had applied for her bail, and our efforts were rewarded on the 5th of September 2023, when she was granted release upon paying a surety of 50,000 PKR, reuniting her with her loved ones and giving her the chance to rebuild her life.
You can see in the video where she is thanking the legal team that was engaged with your support. *(Names may be changed to protect privacy)
Update 2: Our Second Successful Legal Aid Case
Attiya Bibi* hails from a quiet, remote village in Narowal, where her life took an unexpected turn when she found herself entangled in a complicated family dispute. Falsely accused of abduction alongside her husband and son, the allegations came from none other than her own sister and her family. The ordeal began when Attiya Bibi's son married her sister's daughter, with the young girl's consent. However, their elopement didn't sit well with the girl's family, leading them to file a baseless case against Attiya Bibi and her loved ones. She endured the hardships of Adiala Jail, where the lack of funds for bail left her trapped. It was only through the unwavering efforts of our legal team (pro-bono led by Barrister Maleeka Bokhari) that we managed to secure her bail on September 27, 2023. On October 11, 2023, a member of our team deposited her surety, a total of 50,000 /- PKR, finally granting her release. Regrettably, her husband and son remain incarcerated, still awaiting their chance for justice (as of 17-Oct-2023). *Name may be changed for privacy
